The Supreme Court had struck down Article 12 of the Zilla Parishad Act of the Government of Maharashtra. The court had clarified that the system of reservation has been fixed according to the population and in no case more than 50 percent reservation can be given. The Supreme Court had also clearly ordered that OBCs cannot be given more than 27% reservation. Following this constitutional limit, elections should be conducted in the Zilla Parishad.
