Bizarre! Groom Cancels Wedding in Telangana Over Old Furniture Given in Dowry

Hyderabad: A man here called off his marriage after he allegedly found that the bride’s family had given ‘old’ furniture as dowry. The police gave this information on Monday. The bridegroom, who works as a bus driver, did not turn up for Sunday’s wedding following which the bride’s father lodged a police complaint and a case was registered.

The bride’s father told the media that the groom’s father misbehaved with her when he went to their house.

“He said that the stuff he asked for was not given and the furniture was also old. He refused to come. I had arranged a feast for the wedding and invited all the relatives and guests. I didn’t come.” said the father of the bride.

Based on the complaint, the police said that the groom’s family was expecting furniture along with other items as dowry, but as the furniture allegedly used by the bride’s family was given, the groom’s family rejected it. Gave and did not return on the day of marriage.

According to the police, a case was registered under relevant sections of IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act and further investigation is underway.
