With a hint of his dissent from the Congress, actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Monday revealed that he had joined the Trinamool Congress at the invitation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. A day later, he was made the party’s candidate for the Lok Sabha. Many questions are also being raised regarding this.

Bihari Babu to contest by-election from Asansol

Sinha said that Mamta is truly the most popular and popular leader of the people. I hope to strengthen the voice of the opposition by using the talent pool of Trinamool Congress. The 76-year-old leader further said, “My target will be how I can serve Asansol and West Bengal and live up to the expectations.” I may have come in a new direction, but this is the right direction. “As far as the Congress is concerned, I don’t want to complain about anybody at this point of time, nor do I want to get into what happened, what didn’t happen, what should have happened.

Mamta is a mass leader

Asked whether he felt that the Congress could no longer play the role of an effective opposition, Sinha said, “Those who are not able to play the role of a strong opposition, they will have to do it tomorrow if not today.” Mamata Banerjee managed to show the way by defeating the money power of the ruling party (BJP) with the manpower.

If I am an outsider then Modi is also an outsider.

“How can one call me an ‘outsider’? Like my native Bihar, Bengal has always been my weakness. I have done many films in Bengali including the National Award winning film ‘Antor Koli Jatra’.” Also, Asansol is a cosmopolitan City, where apart from my dear Bengali people, residents of Bihar, Jharkhand and elsewhere are residing in large numbers. If I am called an ‘outsider’ in Asansol, will he be called an outsider even for the prime minister contesting from Varanasi?
