Bihar: Former chief shot dead in Samastipur, supporters blocked NH-28 in protest. Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: Armed criminals shot dead a former mukhiya at Sao Ji Ka Tola in Bakhri village under musrigharari police station area of Samastipur Friday in broad daylight.
The slain chief has been identified as Shashinath Jha, aged about 58 years. The murder took place around 9:30 in the morning.
He was a resident of Bakhri village and was the head of Bakhri elder panchayat for two consecutive terms.
Jha’s wife Madhuri Devi Till the end of the term of all the panchayats of the state on June 15 this year, the head of this panchayat was.
Jha also ran a bus stand here Musrighari Chowk For many years and according to the police was considered an influential figure in the area.
Soon after the murder, his supporters blocked the Mussighari Chowk in the middle of the road by setting vehicles, barricades and arson.
It is NH-28 which passes through this Chowk and connects Muzaffarpur with Begusarai.
Traffic was disrupted for over an hour and the blockade was lifted by the police after pacifying the protesters.
When asked, Samastipur SP Manavjit Singh Dhillon told TOI over phone that Jha was returning to his car parked on the village road after meeting with two families in Tola when he was shot dead.
Eyewitnesses told the police that Rajesh Pal along with another aide approached Jha and fired six rounds. Four bullets hit Jha in the chest and other parts of the body, after which he collapsed on the spot.
Dhillon said that after killing Jha, Pal and his accomplice fled on foot from the spot. “Many residents immediately recognized Pal as he is from him,” he said.
The SP said that Jha had gone to the spot to resolve the ongoing dispute between the two families on a private road. “They had parked their car a short distance away because the road was too narrow to reach their homes,” he said.
SP Dhillon said that at least two different pistols were used in Jha’s murder as police recovered two blank 7.65 mm cartridges and four 9 mm blank cartridges.
He said the police were probing whether it was an ongoing personal enmity that led to his shooting.
SHO Sanjay Kumar Singh of Musrighari police station, the shooter Rajesh, has at least three criminal cases, including a murder last year. “He went to jail in 2018 and again in the first half of last year. He was evading arrest continuously since last year’s murder,” Singh said.
The SHO said raids were conducted at Rajesh’s residence in the village but he was evading arrest. He said the police were trying to ascertain the identity of the second shooter.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem after which it will be handed over to the family. The police is waiting for a written complaint from their side to register an FIR.
