On Monday, inside the Legislative Council, of which he is also a member, the septuagenarian was visibly upset at the sight of a display board that read things in English.

The Chief Minister’s anger has once again erupted in Bihar. Nitish Kumar against the use of the English language, this time inside the state legislature.

On Monday, the septuagenarian was troubled to see display boards inside the Legislative Council, of which he is also a member, with things written in English.

In a video clip that has gone viral, Kumar can be seen commenting on Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur, who incidentally belongs to his JD(U), saying, “I can see words like honorable and at the time of speaking. What is the matter? Do you intend to eliminate Hindi? (Will I finish Hindi)”.

The exchange lasted for less than a minute as the Speaker could be heard pacifying the chief minister with an assurance that amendments would be made.

The incident is reminiscent of the dressing down given by Kumar to a progressive mobile farmer last month when the latter, a management graduate, described his switch over from a plum job in Pune to farming in his native district. Used many English words. Sheikhpura for whom the irony is that he was also praising the government in the state.

The BJP, itself facing accusations of Hinduism from time to time, used the opportunity to target Kumar, who had been an ally for less than a year.

“It seems that the chief minister is under a lot of pressure and frustrated with his inability to keep things under control after joining the RJD-led grand alliance. It shows in constant resentment”, former minister Neeraj Singh Bablu said.

State BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand alleged in a tweet more bluntly that the chief minister’s behavior was like “a bull going mad on a piece of red cloth” and denoted “psychological illness”.

Haribhushan Thakur Bachol, another BJP leader who has been in the news for provocative statements, demanded that a “health card” of the chief minister be issued to assure people that the state was in “safe hands”.

He also referred to Kumar’s slip of the tongue inside the Assembly on Monday when he spoke of being the ‘Home Minister’ (home minister) in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, though he never held the portfolio.

RJD MLA and chief spokesperson Bhai Virender was quick to level the blame at Bachhol, who said the BJP leader “(himself) will be treated appropriately by the chief minister and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav”.

Veteran JD(U) leader and minister Shravan Kumar reminded the MLA that “nobody, even in his own party, takes care of him”.
