The Janata Dal (U) leader, who has been meeting heads of non-BJP parties to unite them for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, had come to New Delhi last month and met Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

With less than a year left for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi discussed opposition unity with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in New Delhi on Monday.

Kumar met Kharge and Gandhi at the Congress chief’s 10, Rajaji Marg residence here. Sources said that the roadmap for strengthening opposition unity and a possible meeting of opposition leaders in Patna were discussed during the meeting.

After the meeting, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that a final decision regarding the date and venue of the meeting would be taken this week.

“We had a detailed discussion about the meeting of the opposition parties. A final decision regarding the date and venue of the meeting will be taken in one to two days.

JDU, RJD and Congress are in coalition government in Bihar and all three parties are in talks to bring other opposition parties on a common platform in their fight against BJP.

Earlier on Sunday, Kumar met his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and both leaders called for opposition unity to take on the BJP.

JDU leader met AAP convener at his residence in New Delhi and extended “full support” to him in the ongoing standoff with the Center over control of administrative services.

Significantly, Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah attended the swearing-in ceremony of Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Saturday. Late last month, Kumar indicated that a meeting of opposition leaders may be held in Patna after the Karnataka assembly elections are over and issues related to building opposition unity are expected to be discussed in that meeting.
