Bhawanipur Bypoll Live Updates: CM Mamta Vs Priyanka Tibrewal Fight Begins, Voting Begins; Voting also in Jangipur, Samserganj

In view of the bypolls, 20 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be deployed in the constituency. Apart from Bhawanipur, bypolls are also going to be held in Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies on Thursday. Apart from the CAPFs, 52 other companies of central forces are deployed for the elections to the three assembly seats. The Election Commission on Tuesday imposed Section 144 in Bhawanipur till the end of the by-election on 30 September. The decision comes after a delegation of BJP leaders asked the Election Commission to enforce curfew and deploy central forces to ensure fair elections.

Amid heavy rains in Kolkata, election officials said all arrangements have been made in case the rains continue. He said that all polling stations have been asked to install pumps to draw out the flood water, while the police personnel deployed for the elections have been asked to carry raincoats and umbrellas. Several areas of Bhabnipur assembly constituency were flooded on Wednesday following overnight rains, officials said. Waterlogging was also reported at Amherst Street, Thanthania, Central Avenue and Nayabad among other places.
