Bengal hikes traffic violation fines as per Motor Vehicles Act. Description

New Delhi: In order to control the number of road accidents in the state, the West Bengal government has finally decided to increase the fine for traffic violations as per the Motor Vehicles Act, a notification said.

Though the Center had implemented similar fines in 2019, the West Bengal government was still behind in imposing them in view of the “difficulties being faced by the common man”, reports news agency PTI.

Now, a person found driving a car without a license will have to pay Rs 5,000 from the previous fine of Rs 500. Similarly, a person driving negligently will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 4,000. , which was earlier Rs 400, said the notification issued by the state transport department, according to PTI.

If you are found violating the driving rules on the road, you will have to pay between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, while Rs 2,000 for lapsed car insurance and Rs 5,000 for racing on the road.

Driving any vehicle without a road permit will attract a fine of Rs 10,000 and if it is not registered, Rs 5,000. A biker will have to pay Rs 1,000 for riding without a helmet.

Also, for blowing the horn in a silent zone, you will have to pay a fine of between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000. Significantly, according to the notification, fines have been increased for a total of 26 traffic violations.

“The new guideline will come into effect soon. Traffic police personnel and motor vehicle inspectors can collect fines. This hike will on one hand increase the revenue of the government and on the other will motivate people to follow the rules.
