NEW DELHI: Indian and Chinese soldiers on Saturday exchanged New Year greetings and sweets at 10 locations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including “points of friction” in the eastern region. Ladakh, in yet another attempt to defuse the 20-month-long military confrontation ahead of the 14th round of Corps Commander-level talks later this month.
“Local commanders are holding regular and customary talks with their counterparts of the People’s Liberation” Army ,plaIt serves to de-escalate tensions on the border, while high-level diplomatic and military talks take place to resolve outstanding issues,” said a senior Army official.
The Indian Army also presented sweets to Pakistani soldiers at some places along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday as per its tradition. But the interaction with the PLA was more noteworthy as the exchange of sweets also took place at “key friction points” in eastern Ladakh, including the strategically located Depsang plains as well as the “bottleneck” area at Demchok.
Other places were the Karakoram Pass, Daulat Beg Oldi, Kongka La and Chushul-Moldo in eastern Ladakh. Similar talks took place in other areas of the 3,488-km-long LAC, including Nathu La and Kongra Lai Sikkim and Bum La and . In covenant damai in Arunachal Pradesh.
