BCCI invites bids for IPL media rights till 2023-27

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited bids for IPL media rights from the 2023-27 cycle. Earlier, Star India had paid Rs 16,347.5 crore for the 2018-2022 cycle. With the popularity of the league increasing and the addition of two new teams, this number could reach Rs 40,000 crore for the upcoming five-year cycle.

Companies interested in acquiring rights to Indian cricket’s most popular property include Reliance-backed Viacom18, current rights holder Disney Star, Sony (which paid Rs 8,200 for nine years in 2009) and streaming giant Amazon. Can bid for digital rights.

In a press release issued by the BCCI, Secretary Jay Shah said: “I am happy to announce that BCCI The tender document for IPL media rights for the season 2023-27 has been released. With 2 new teams, more matches, more engagements, more venues, we are looking to take #TataIPL To new and greater heights. ,

“The tender document is now available for purchase. Media rights will be e-auctioned for the first time in IPL history. E-auction will start from June 12, 2022 #TATAIPL,” she added.

The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process, including eligibility requirements, procedure for submission of bids, proposed media rights package and obligations etc., are contained in the ‘Invitation to Tender’ (“ITT”) which will be made available upon receipt. Any applicable Goods and Services Tax along with payment of a non-refundable duty of INR 25,00,000 (Rupees Twenty Five Lakhs only). The procedure for obtaining ITT documents is listed in Annex A to this document. ITT will be available for purchase till 10th May 2022.

Any interested party willing to submit a bid is required to purchase ITT. However, only those who fulfill the eligibility criteria will be eligible to bid. Mere purchase of this ITT does not entitle any person to bid. Earlier, the board had also proposed a six-team women’s IPL which is to be held from 2023. The Governing Council met in person for the first time in two years and A proposed an eight-team format with a clear emphasis on the existing three franchises.
