Bank Holidays in September: Banks will be closed for 5 days this week View full list

NS reserve Bank of India (RBI) had released a list of Bank holiday For the month of September 2021. As per the list, banks across India will have a total of 11 days off this month, counting from Monday. The list was of 12 days, but with the passage of Sunday, it has reduced by one day. Speaking of which, a total of 11 days are not just compulsory holidays reserve Bank of India, but includes weekends. Golmaal is five weekend holidays this month and six mandatory bank holidays issued by the RBI for the month of September.

The RBI Holidays List can be considered as a collection of state wise celebrations, religious holidays and festival celebrations. However, if the official classification is to be considered, the list of holidays falls in the bracket of ‘Leave under Negotiable Instruments Act’. Other classifications for RBI listing are ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’. The other two classifications are not applicable in the month of September as per the RBI website.

The holidays issued by RBI are scheduled to start from September 8, however, if you also account for the weekends, the list of holidays was actually scheduled to start from September 5, 2021. It was the first Sunday in which to give up or reject. It was a holiday for all banks across India considering that it is a weekend holiday. Note that unlike weekends, RBI’s list of bank holidays is not uniform. This means they do not apply to all states at the same time. It is a matter of select cards, which has been outlined by the apex bank.

The first official RBI compulsory holiday is the date of Shrimant Sankardev and it is only a holiday for the banks in Guwahati. This holiday will be on 8th September. No city in any other state shall have a holiday for that particular day. Keeping this in mind, you should know that this month is a holiday which is quite extensive. On 10th September, Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Vinayaka Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayak Vrat will be observed in total 9 cities across India. Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji places where there will be a bank holiday for this holiday.

The next day is the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi, but according to RBI this relaxation will be applicable only for banks in Panaji. Holidays are few and far between this month as compared to previous months. You have to keep an eye on the calendar and plan your next bank trip accordingly.

3) 10 September – Ganesh Chaturthi / Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha) / Vinayaka Chaturthi / Varsiddhi Vinayaka Vrat – (Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji)

4) September 11 – 2nd Saturday / Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd day) – (Panaji)

5) September 12 – Sunday

6) September 17 – Karma Puja – (Ranchi)

7) September 19 – Sunday

8) September 20 – Indrajatra – (Gangtok)

9) September 21 – Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day – (Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram)

10) September 25 – Fourth Saturday

11) September 26 – Sunday
