The list of bank holidays released every month by RBI is a mix of state wise holidays, religious events as well as festival celebrations. However, the apex bank has an official classification for these leaves. For the calendar month of September, the list of holidays is classified under the bracket ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act’. There are other classifications as well and these are ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’, however, these do not apply specifically to this month.

The final list of holidays, including weekends, began on 5 September, as it was the first Sunday of the month. RBI compulsory holiday, on the other hand, began on 8 September, the date of Srimanta Sankardev, which was a holiday for banks in Guwahati. On 10th September, Ganesh Chaturthi/Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Vinayaka Chaturthi/Varasiddhi Vinayak Vrat will be observed in total 9 cities across India. Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji are the places where banks will have a holiday.

This also happens on the same day as the second Saturday of the month, which means that banks across India will also have a holiday on this day.
