‘Balika Vadhu 2’ did nothing special on TV Shivangi Joshi reveals why the show is ending suddenly

The news of Balika Vadhu 2 going off-air has been making headlines for quite some time now. It was recently revealed that the show will now air on Voot, while it will end on television. However, in a recent interview, the show’s lead actress Shivangi Joshi has revealed the reason behind it.

During an interaction with Pinkvilla, Shivangi Joshi mentioned that Balika Vadhu 2 did well not on television but on OTT and hence the makers have decided to end the show on television. “Yeah, it didn’t do very well on TV, but it is doing well on OTT platforms. Both the mediums have their own audience, so we are glad that it is on OTT now and we will get new viewers. People will now see a different concept of Balika Vadhu. So that’s cool, the story is very interesting and relatable too. The situations that will be created (in the show) will be very believable. Today’s generation will be able to connect with Anandi.

Shivangi Joshi further added that the story of Balika Vadhu on OTT is very different from the story of television. “It is very different – from the way Anandi dresses up to the way she talks now, she is a businessman. So a lot has changed,” she said.

Shivangi Joshi was further asked if she felt there was a disconnect with the audience due to the huge gap between the two seasons of Balika Vadhu. To this, the actress replied in the negative and said that her character Anandi is still very much liked. “I don’t think so, because that character was loved so much, and I think love and everything is still there. You know Naira for that matter (from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai), if we were ten years old. And if we do the same thing again, I don’t think the audience will get disconnected. Obviously for a while if you don’t see that scene, but when they see the character again So they will get the same love and appreciation.”

Earlier, the producer of the show Sunjoy Wadhwa had also denied the rumors that the show could not run due to the new cast. “When we changed the story and took a leap, things happened very fast. It is true that we had cast Shivangi as the lead role, but the script or the performance of the actors is not responsible for a show going off-air. We all know that sometimes there is no particular reason why a show fails to click with the audience. I can’t cry over something that hasn’t worked out,” the producer had told The Times of India.

Balika Vadhu premiered in 2008 and revolves around a young girl who was forced into child marriage. The show featured Avika Gaur and Avinash Mukherjee in the lead roles. His adult roles were played by late actors Pratyusha Banerjee and Siddharth Shukla. The second season of the show premiered last year.
