Bad news for Samajwadi Party: Absconding party MLA Irfan Solanki, younger brother surrender; arrested

Kanpur: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Irfan Solanki and his brother Rizwan Solanki surrendered at the Kanpur commissioner camp office on Friday. Last month, he was booked by the police for allegedly harassing a woman and setting her house on fire in a land dispute. Since then the SP MLA and his brother were absconding. According to reports, the police is looking for Irfan and his younger brother Rizwan Solanki after they were booked for rioting and arson at the house of one Nazir Fathima on November 8 in a land dispute case.

However, Irfan Solanki released a video message refuting the allegations and requested Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana to form a committee of legislators to properly investigate the allegations against him and ensure justice.

Irfan and his younger brother Rizwan were accompanied by SP MLAs from Arya Nagar and Kanpur Cantt, Amitabh Bajpai and Mohd Hasan alias Rumi and their family members, the official told PTI.

Police Commissioner BP Jogdand told PTI that Irfan and his brother Rizwan surrendered before him at his camp office on Friday and were later arrested by the police.

Jogdand said that SP MLA from Sisamau (Kanpur) Irfan and his brother would be produced in a court on Friday, adding “we will seek police custody if needed.”

Speaking to reporters, DCP Crime Salmantaj Zafartaj Patil said, “We had received the non-bailable warrant against him about a fortnight ago.” before the court.”

Notably, he will be produced in court seeking police custody to gather more information about his whereabouts and sympathisers.
