Pakistan’s star cricketer Babar Azam is setting new records in ODI cricket.

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam has been left behind Virat Kohli And Hashim Amla became the fastest batsman to score 5000 runs in men’s ODI history.

The historic moment came during the Pakistan skipper’s 117-run knock in the fourth match of the ongoing ODI home series against New Zealand on Friday.

Babar has taken 97 innings to achieve the feat, while Kohli has reached the milestone in 114 innings.

The Pakistani star has been dominating in the 50-over format.

He surpassed South African legend Hashim Amla, who held the previous record of fastest to 5000 ODI runs, taking 101 innings to reach there.

Babar set a new record which resulted in fans showering him with praise on social media leading to inevitable comparisons with Kohli.

Former Pakistani cricketer Misbah-ul-Haq while congratulating Babar said, ‘You are the king of this format. Keep shining and stay strong.

A fan showed Babar’s extraordinary statistics against Army nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia).

Another predicted that Babar would also become the fastest to score 6000 ODI runs.

Kohli took 136 innings to achieve the feat while Hashim Amla took 123.

Going into the fourth ODI in Karachi, Babar-led Pakistan had already won the ODI series against New Zealand with three back-to-back victories.

Batting first, the hosts scored 334 runs in the allotted 50 overs. Apart from Babar, Salman Ali Agha and Shan Masood batted.

While Agha scored 58 runs in 46 balls, Masood scored 44 runs in 55 balls. Matt Henry was the lone standout bowler for the Kiwis, taking three wickets.

Chasing a mammoth total, New Zealand could not cope with Pakistan’s flamboyant bowling attack. With the top-order gone early, captain Tom Latham and Mark Chapman tried to rescue the visitors but could not take them past the winning line.

Pakistan’s spinner Usma Mir took four wickets, while fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Junior took three wickets. Among others, Haris Rauf took two wickets and Shaheen Afridi took one wicket.
