Baahubali fans compare the teaser of Ponniyin Selvan I starring Prabhas: ‘It’s pale in comparison’

Baahubali fans trended the film on social media as soon as the teaser of Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited Ponniyin Selvan I was unveiled by the makers on Friday. According to fans, the basis of the comparison was the visual story which was the driving factor in the global success of Baahubali and something that Ponniyin Selvan I would also rely on to reach a wider audience. Several Baahubali fans took to Twitter to claim that Ponniyin Selvan I is nowhere compared to the Prabhas-starrer and the hype is in vain.

The teaser of Ponniyin Selvan I was launched on Friday. It features wide wide shots of ships sailing on the battlefield and on the water. Undoubtedly, the director’s scale and vision look gorgeous and the scenes captured through the lens of ace cinematographer Ravi Varman scream grand. Several pictures from the teaser of Ponniyin Selvan I are going viral on social media, with fans praising him.

Baahubali fans troll Ponniyin Selvan I

Another section of the film-goers started on the Tamil vs Telugu cinema debate. Baahubali was a Telugu origin and was a matter of pride for the industry. With the teaser out of Ponniyin Selvan I, Tamil film buffs were bloated to see such a gorgeous film from their industry. Comparing the two films, a social media user wrote, “May be harsh but not close to Baahubali (sic) scenes and VFX.”

Another Twitter user commented, “Trying to match #bahubali but they (sic) can’t.”

Ponniyin Selvan I will hit the screens on 30 September. Ponniyin Selvan: I have a stellar star cast boasting of all the major names in Indian cinema. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lakshmi among others are involved in recreating the historical story. Ponniyin Selvan reunited Aishwarya with Ratnam in 1997 after his acting debut in Iruvar (Tamil), Guru (2007), and Raavan (2010). The music of the film is given by AR Rahman.
