Ayurveda remedies can help reduce Covid-19 infection, suggests expert

India is once again witnessing an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 infections after the new Omron version wreaked havoc. However, medical experts are considering keeping the situation under control as hospitalisation, ICU bed occupancy and mortality have been lower as compared to the delta version of the coronavirus. On Monday, the government launched a vaccination campaign to vaccinate 15 to 17-year-olds against the novel coronavirus.

Dr Tanuja, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Delhi said that the risk of any infection can be significantly reduced if ayurvedic measures are adopted to increase immunity by following the COVID norms.

Tanuja said that Ayurveda remedies do not claim to prevent corona or any other kind, but the remedies definitely strengthen the immunity of people and hence can reduce the rate of infection.

“In India, we are now seeing the Omicron variant spreading very fast. It is infecting thousands of people simultaneously. People are being requested by the authorities to follow the appropriate behavior of Covid,” she said.

“The prevalence is high in Omicron but the severity is low and the reason for this is the vaccine. People who are vaccinated may be getting infected, but the virus is not able to cause serious harm. In times like these, taking care of the children becomes very important.”

Tanuja said that children should be given Chyawanprash in milk as it will benefit children during winter season and their immunity will also increase.

“Children should also be fed milk mixed with turmeric powder. Give them fresh fruits, vegetables and keep them away from junk food or fast food.

He said that if the child has symptoms of cough or cold, then Ayurvedic medicines like Sitopaladi churna or Haridra Khand mixed with honey can be given immediately. Along with this a doctor can be consulted.
