Ashes 2021-22: Nasser Hossain praises England after thrilling draw in Sydney

Former England captain Nasser Hussain is impressed with the way Australia pulled out a draw in the ongoing Ashes 2021-22 Sydney Test on Sunday.

England avoided a clean sweep in the Ashes after James Anderson and Stuart Broad survived the final moments of the fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Although the visitors faced pressure from the Australian bowling attack and the removal of Jack Leach two overs before the scheduled end of the game, Anderson and Broad combined to hold off the final 12 balls. Chasing 388 in the fourth innings, England finished with 270/9.

The confidence with which England took on Australia after trailing 0-3 is impressive. Despite what happened during the tour, Hussain praised him for his defiant performance.

Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow struggled with injuries but went ahead despite it. Hossain, however, feared another hammer hit when England were bowled out for just 36 runs in the first innings.

It was the seventh time that England’s tenth-wicket partnership saved the day for them.

For Hussain, it was opener Zak Crowley who stole the limelight on Sunday. He highlighted Crowley’s 77, saying that his timing and shot selection were absolutely flawless. He said the youngster showed the blueprint for batting in Australia.

“You can’t have a top three who are absolutely looking to survive. You have to counter-punch, look aggressive and attack these Australian players,” wrote Nasser

The final Test match of the Ashes 2021-22 will start from January 14 at the Bellerive Oval.
