Ashes 2021-22: Mitchell Starc clears Rory Burns with a brilliant first ball delivery – watch

Months after losing the final Test against Australia, Australia made a spectacular comeback at the Gabba India Earlier this year in January. The Pat Cummins-led side got off to an incredible start in the Ashes 2021-22, which began in Brisbane on Wednesday. Mitchell Starc bowled a brilliant first ball of the game to dismiss England opener Rory Burns.

On a rainy day, England captain Joe Root won the toss and decided to bat first on Hare Gabba top. But as expected, it favored the fast bowlers right from the start and the Aussies wasted no time in making the most of it.

On the first ball, Starc came over the wicket and hit the leg-stump at 142 kmph. A burn was bowled around the leg-stump, but as he swung too far, the ball hit the stumps.

The dismissal led to an animated celebration by Stark, while the crowd at the Gabba went on a rampage. It was the first ball of the summer of cricket and the left-arm quickness gave fans a reason to cheer.

The visitors got off to a poor start on Wednesday morning as the home bowlers ran their top order. After Starc dismissed Burns, Josh Hazlewood dismissed David Malan for six, which was caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey. The right-arm pacer hurt England by sending his captain Joe Root back for a duck at 11/3.

Ben Stokes, who returned to the team after a long break, went to the dressing room after Root. He was dismissed for 5 runs in 21 balls at third slip off Marnus Labuschagne off home captain Cummins.

England have yet to win at the Gabba in Brisbane since 1986 and miss Test cricket’s most prolific fast bowler Jimmy Anderson, who has been rested. He also dropped Stuart Broad and the decision shocked many.
