As Delhi-NCR AQI Improves, Curbs Imposed Under Stage II of GRAP Lifted

New DelhiPollution control authorities have lifted the restrictions imposed under the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi-NCR with immediate effect in view of the significant improvement in air quality over the past few days, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the 4 pm AQI bulletin by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), since January 30, Delhi’s overall air quality has improved from 207 (‘poor’) that day to 164 (‘moderate’) on Wednesday. Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said in a statement.

“Considering this trend of improvement in the overall AQI of Delhi-NCR, the GRAP sub-committee accordingly decided to cancel the action under Phase II of GRAP (‘Very Poor’ AQI) in the entire NCR with immediate effect it said. ,

However, all actions under Phase-I of GRAP will remain in force and will be implemented, monitored and reviewed by all concerned agencies across NCR to ensure that the overall air quality of Delhi-NCR does not deteriorate further in the coming days . CAQM said.

In view of the improvement in the overall AQI of Delhi over the last few days, and considering the meteorology and weather forecast by IITM/IMD, the sub-committee under GRAP, Air Quality Management Commission for the National Capital Region and adjoining areas Action to Initiate Areas (CAQM) meeting was held on Wednesday to review the current air quality scenario.

While reviewing the overall air quality parameters of Delhi-NCR and other aspects, the Sub-Committee noted that the forecast by IMD/IITM does not indicate the overall AQI of Delhi to fall in the ‘very poor’ category in the coming days, and is likely to remain in the ‘moderate’ category. Therefore, it is considered appropriate to relax the ongoing restrictions under GRAP Phase II and withdraw the same with immediate effect in the entire NCR, the statement said.

The order to implement the Phase-II level of restrictions was implemented on October 19 last year.

Delhi’s overall AQI improved significantly from 207 (‘poor’ category) observed on January 30 to 192 (‘moderate’ category) observed on January 31 to 164 (?moderate’ category) recorded on February Is. 1, it said.

The various agencies responsible for implementing the measures under GRAP and the Pollution Control Boards (PCBs) of NCR and DPCC have also been advised to ensure strict implementation of all Phase-I actions under GRAP throughout NCR. The Commission will closely monitor the air quality scenario in the coming days and review the situation accordingly.

The commission has advised people to keep the engines of their vehicles, such as cars, bikes, scooters, etc., properly tuned; maintaining proper air pressure in the tires of vehicles; And keep the PUC certificates of your vehicles up to date.
