Mumbai:

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan spent another night in jail as his bail papers fell in seconds after a nerve-wracking countdown on Friday.

23-year-old Aryan Khan was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Thursday.

The deadline for putting the hard copy of the release order at the “Bail Box” at Arthur Road in Mumbai was 5.30 pm for him to be released from jail this evening. Jail officials said that the papers did not reach them on time.

Nitin Vaichal, a senior jail official, told NDTV, “The bell box is closed. Now any release will happen only after 10 am tomorrow.”

Another official told PTI, “We will not treat anyone special. The law is the same for all. The deadline for receiving the bail papers was 5.30 pm. He has passed. He will not be released today.” “

Hoping to return home, Shah Rukh Khan left his Mumbai home Mannat for jail around 3.40 pm, where Aryan has already spent 22 days.

Actor Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan’s co-star, early in her film career, signed a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh for Aryan Khan.

The move was necessary for the Mumbai sessions court to sign release papers which were to be sent directly to jail.

“The main thing – ab bachcha ghar aa jayega (Aryan will return home),” Juhi Chawla told reporters.

Aryan Khan’s lawyer rushes to go to Arthur Road Jail and deposit the documents through the slot in a metal box which is opened four times in a day – 5.30 am, 10.30 am, 3.30 pm and 5.30 pm.

Many noted that the bail process seemed outdated, especially for a case that was based on WhatsApp chats.

Aryan Khan spent almost a month in jail after his arrest following a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raid on a cruise ship party on 2 October. He was “accused number 1” in the drugs-on-cruise case, in which a total of 20 arrests.

Although no drugs were found on him, the anti-drug agency claimed in courts that his WhatsApp chats proved his involvement in “illegal drug deals” and links with a foreign drugs cartel.

Outside Mannat, a huge throng of media waited long for the return of Aryan Khan, who left home for a cruise party on October 2 and has not returned since.

The Bombay High Court has listed 14 conditions for his bail – Aryan Khan cannot leave Mumbai without informing the police and he has to appear before the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) every Friday.

The conditions included “not to leave the country without permission,” not to engage in similar activities, not to communicate with other accused like his friend Arbaaz Merchant, and not to speak to the media.

Aryan Khan also has to visit the NCB office every Friday between 11 am and 2 pm, attend court hearings and join investigations as and when required.

If any of these conditions are violated, the court says that the NCB can request cancellation of bail.
