Arrest of accused of burglary due to act of 14 year old girl – Henry Club

Police said the action of a brave 14-year-old girl, who was at home with her 12-year-old sister, when a man broke into her Middleboro home early Friday, arrested the suspect immediately. The police were called at 7:20 am. At a residence on Spruce Street, where Avery Cormier said she was woken by the sound of an intruder in her home. Cormier grabbed a pair of steak knives and confronted the man, later identified as 58-year-old Joseph Ridge of Bourne, as he was allegedly trying to steal items from the home. Police said that he had run away from home. Officials said the teen followed Ridge and was able to capture a video of the vehicle he was driving, which he shared with police. “I kicked him out of the house. I scared him. I took a video of him leaving the truck, so I have his license plate number,” Cormier told the 911 operator. Ridge, who is known to police, was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police as he was driving on the Bourne Bridge. “I want to applaud this girl’s courageous actions. Even in the midst of the sheer horror, her bravery helped us identify the man who was believed to be responsible for breaking into her home. Chief of the Middleboro Police Department Joseph Perkins said. Ridge was charged during the day with felony breaking and entering, trespassing. and disorderly conduct. “The suspect in this case is a career criminal who was arrested in his own home.
