The Oscar-nominated song Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR will be performed at the 95th Academy Awards, announced the makers of the show. With music by MM Keeravani and lyrics by Chandrabose, the song with its catchy tune and dance moves by actors Ram Charan and NTR Rama Rao Jr captures one of the most memorable scenes from the action epic RRR. There is only one day left for the Oscar ceremony to begin. The announcement is to be made and while there are a lot of Indians who have pinned their hopes on RRR’s power-packed song ‘Naatu Naatu’ to win the honour, music maestro AR Rahman also hopes for the same.
Sharing his thoughts on Naatu Naatu, AR Rahman shared, “I want Naatu Naatu to win, I wanted them to win Grammy too because any award for any one of us is going to uplift India.. ..and zone, the concentration level of our culture will be higher.” The energetic magnum opus track ‘Naatu Naatu’ made it to the Oscar nominations this year in the ‘Original Song’ category. This lyrical composition of ‘Naatu Naatu’ by MM Keeravani, high energy vocals by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaal Bhairav, unique choreography by Prem Rakshit, and lyrics by Chandrabose are all elements that make this ‘RRR’ anthem a perfect dance craze .
The song will be performed by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaal Bhairav in their Oscar debut. The cross-cultural hit was nominated in the Original Song category along with “This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, “Applause” from “Tell It Like a Woman” and “Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther”. ‘Naatu Naatu’ has become a viral sensation outside of film, garnering over 122 million views on YouTube and inspiring a Tik Tok challenge where users attempt to recreate the acrobatic dance-off. The 53-second rendition by South Korean ambassador Chang Jae-bok has been viewed more than 4.8 million times since it was posted on Twitter.
Meanwhile, before the Oscars, this song won the award on the global stage. In January, ‘Naatu Naatu’ won a Golden Globe in the ‘Best Original Song’ category. Five days later, ‘RRR’ won two more awards at the 28th edition of the Critics’ Choice Awards. one for Best Song and the other for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’. Since then, ‘RRR’ and ‘Naatu Naatu’ have been riding high on the global charts.
