Apple’s new M2 MacBook is actually slower than M1 MacBook: Report

Apple launched its new MacBooks earlier this month, showing us the progress it has made with its M chipset. Normally, you’d assume that new hardware means better and faster performance, but after several tests, it looks like the new M2 MacBooks are actually slower than M1 units.

The new MacBook Pro has been put to the test with the M1 variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. And as per the results, the SSD performance of the M2 MacBook Pro turned out to be slower than the M1 version.

Several YouTubers named Created Tech and Max Tech ran a disk drive test to find the difference, which is gauged from the read and write speeds of an SSD. With the M2 MacBook, they got read and write speeds of 1,463Mb/s and 1,446Mb/s, respectively.

In comparison, the M1 MacBook achieved 2,215MBsec and 2,900MB/sec read and write speeds, respectively. Seeing this big difference even that seems surprising for a new chip, and YouTubers decided to open the back panel to see the reason.

They found that the M2 MacBook Pro has only one NAND storage chipset, while the M1 variant has two of them. NAND storage is important for the fast flow of data within the machine.

These things are often missed in reviews for different reasons, but if these two videos are anything to go by, those of you buying the M2 MacBook Pro this year may have to be satisfied with slow data speeds. Is.

And given the high price you pay for MacBook Pros, it’s not sure how many people would be willing to settle for the added boost of performance. Apple has talked about the increased size of the board inside the M2 MacBooks, which could have forced the company to remove the additional NAND storage chip. Would you still prefer to buy M2 MacBook Pro over M1 MacBook Pro?
