Apple recently started to roll out iOS 15.3.1 for iPhone users and now, the company has stopped signing iOS 15.3. This means that Apple iPhone users with new iOS updates can no longer downgrade to iOS 15.3. So, if you are already using iOS 15.3 or have upgraded to iOS 15.3.1 then you cannot downgrade, even if you want to.
Released last month, iOS 15.3 was focused on fixing a bug in Safari browser which allowed someone to extract the browsing history of the user and even the Google IDs stored there. The security vulnerability was found in the implementation of IndexedDB, a Javascript API used to store data. With the aid of this bug, cybercriminals were able to see recently accessed URLs and even obtain the Google User ID, which exposes your personal information.
With the iOS 15.3 update, the company also fixed the memory corruption bug which enabled a malicious application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple mentioned that the bug has been widely exploited which means that hackers were using it and it may have impacted some of the users.
Apple regularly stops signing legacy codes after a new iOS build is launched as it allows the company to keep more devices on feature-rich versions and it also protects users from hackers that try to use newly discovered weak links. Although the company doesn’t recommend downgrading to an older iOS build, iPhone users who jailbreak their devices often prefer this process. Users who face battery issues and any other bugs when they install a new iOS build update also try to downgrade their operating system.
