By early 2024, Apple plans to reduce reliance on outside suppliers such as Samsung and LG for displays. Instead, the company intends to enforce the use of self-designed in-house panels for its products such as the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Apple’s first step in this direction will be using microLEDs on the Apple Watch Ultra in late 2024, according to MacRumors, but Apple is all set to expand the use of microLED displays beyond just the Apple Watch. The company will incorporate these advanced displays into the iPhone and other devices. Although these displays may be manufactured by an outside supplier, they will be designed and engineered by Apple to meet their specific needs.

Apple is trying to produce more of its own internally developed components for its iPhones, iPads and Macs. The effort is aimed at reducing the company’s reliance on third-party component suppliers. To accomplish this—Apple is developing its own A-series and M-series chips for its iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

Apart from these, the company is also working on making modem chips and other wireless chips with the goal of ending ties with suppliers such as Qualcomm and Broadcom.

Apple Inc plans to switch to an in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip designed for its devices as early as 2025, instead of using a chip from Broadcom Inc, according to Bloomberg News. Apple is also looking to replace Qualcomm Inc.’s cellular modems. Chips with its own developed chips.

Apple is reportedly already testing a MicroLED display for the Apple Watch, which is said to have better viewing angles and vibrant colors. MicroLED displays, Bloomberg said, “make the content appear like it’s painted on top of glass.” Apple has invested billions in display technology development and is considered one of the company’s most important projects. According to Bloomberg, the target date may be out. A limited supply of the new equipment may be available until 2025 and in case of production difficulties.
