Worldwide tablet shipments registered a decline of 19.1 percent.

Apple shipped 10.8 tablets in Q1 with a 35.2 percent share, followed by Samsung with a 23.1 percent share and shipping 7.1 million units.

A report has shown that Apple will lead the global tablet market followed by Samsung in the first quarter of 2023, accounting for about 58 percent of the market along with the changing landscape.

Apple shipped 10.8 tablets in Q1 with a 35.2 percent share, followed by Samsung with a 23.1 percent share and shipping 7.1 million units. According to preliminary data from International Data Corporation (IDC), Huawei was in third place with 6.6 percent share (2 million units).

Worldwide tablet shipments are set to decline by 19.1 percent (year-on-year) in the first quarter of 2023, reaching 30.7 million units. Lower shipment volumes are now on par with pre-pandemic levels. Shipment volume in Q1 23 was comparable to 30.1 million units in Q1 2019 and 31.6 million units in Q1 2018.

“Tablet vendors enter the first quarter of 2023 with caution. Both commercial and consumer volumes were lower as expected as the macro environment remained uncertain in the first quarter,” said Anuropa Nataraj, senior research analyst at IDC’s Mobility & Consumer Device Trackers.

According to the report, sell-in shipments are expected to remain low in the first half of 2023, as vendors focus on clearing their inventory ahead of the launch of new models.

Chromebook shipments also continued to contract in the first quarter with shipments of 3.8 million units, a decline of 31 percent year-over-year. “Despite the drop in tablet shipments, there are some reasons for optimism as more vendors are paying attention to the space,” said research manager Jitesh Ubrani.

“The recent launch of OnePlus and Google’s upcoming Pixel tablet are clear indications that there is appetite from the supply side,” he added.
