Apple Music is the second largest music streaming platform: Report

The Cupertino-based tech giant’s Apple Music accounts for 15 percent of the global music streaming market, which is still behind streaming giant Spotify, which has more than 30 percent, a new report said. According to new research from MIDiA, Apple caters to 15 percent of the approximately 524 million global audiences, reports AppleInsider.

The report said that Spotify remains at the top spot with a 31 per cent share in 2021, though the streaming service is down from 33 per cent in 2020. It added that Amazon Music and Tencent Music each have a market share of 13 percent, while YouTube Music accounts for 8 percent of the global subscription.

The report shows that the global base grew by 109.5 million by the end of the second quarter of 2021, or nearly 26 percent year-on-year. Global streaming is up, largely driven by Covid-19 boredom. In 2020, on-demand audio streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify saw growth of 16.2 percent globally over 2019.
