The Apple iPhone 14 series may get a different set of hardware this year. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the company may bring vanilla iPhone 14 and new iPhone 14 Max with the existing Apple A15 Bionic chipset and a new A16 Bionic SoC for the iPhone 14 Pro model.
Kuo tweeted the details, which also talked about the new iPhone 14 series coming with 6GB of RAM. The main difference is that the iPhone 14 and 14 Max get LPDDR 4X RAM, while the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max include LPDDR 5 RAM standard.
Only two Pro models will upgrade to the A16 processor, while the 14 and 14 Max will remain the A15. These new details clearly suggest that Apple is done with mini experimentation, and instead buyers will have the option of getting the iPhone 14 Max this year. Then you have the regular iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max rounding up the lineup for the year.
Going with an older chip over a newer model might not sound appealing to people, but purely for its performance, the A15 is highly capable and never leaves users feeling desired. In fact, the A15 has easily outclassed the flagship SoCs powering high-end Android phones.
Kuo didn’t give a reason for the decision, but with ongoing chip supplies becoming a global issue, it’s possible that Apple is finally feeling the impact.
Apple recently launched the iPhone SE 2022 Edition with the A15 Bionic. The company replaced its existing SE model with a new one for the same price of Rs 43,900. Similarly, the iPad Air 2020 version was switched with the iPad Air 2022 model which is powered by the M1 chipset and gets 8GB of RAM onboard. Apple is going to release new updates for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV this week.
iPhone users will finally have the option to use Face ID with their masks.
