Apple, Google, Microsoft, Mozilla come together to improve your browsing experience – Times of India

Google, Apple, Microsoft, mozilla, Iglia and Bokup have partnered to launch the Interop 2022 benchmark. It is an initiative by all major browser vendors and other stakeholders with an aim to address top browser compatibility issues identified by web developers. In simple words, this initiative will improve the compatibility of apps, features and services across all browsers. According to a blog post by GoogleThe developer team of Interop 2022 will improve the web development experience in 15 key areas.
This isn’t the first time browsers have come together to address compatibility issues. Back in 2019 Mozilla, Google, and others also joined hands in the form of the MDN Developer Needs Assessment Survey and Deep-Dive Browser Compatibility Report. These reports provided insights into addressing the top challenges for developers with the web platform and led to the COMPET 2021 effort.
The 15 key areas that Interop 2022 will work on include cascade layers, color space and CSS color functions, new viewport units, scrolling, subgrids and <डायलॉग> Elements are included. At its core, Interop 2022 is an evolving metric resulting from a set of automated tests intended to evaluate support for certain web standards that are important to web developers. As Apple explained in its WebKit blog, “The Interop 2022 dashboard will be continuously updated throughout the year, showing progress as browser engineers fix bugs, implement new features, and improve tests.”
According to Microsoft, greater vendor participation in the initiative and wider scope to tackle the interoperability areas, Interop 2022 will help the web platform grow this year.
