Rail accident: Another major train accident was averted on Sunday as railway staff noticed a huge crack in the base of a coach above the wheelhouse of the Chennai Egmore Express while entering Sengottai station in Tamil Nadu, informed the Southern Railway. Railway staff noticed the damage at 3:36 pm, the special coach (S3) immediately detached the coach and shifted the passengers to other coaches. The train left for Madurai at 4:40 pm after a delay of one and a half hour.

Southern Railway said that the staff who detected the crack would be appreciated for their vigilant monitoring and would be felicitated by the Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division today. “Yesterday at 3:36 p.m. C&W staff noticed a crack in S3 coach of Train No. 16102 (Chennai Egmore Express) while entering Sengottai station in Tamil Nadu. Railway officials immediately isolated the coach and shifted the passengers to other coaches Following which the train departed at 4:40 pm. The staff who detected the crack will be commended for their vigilant monitoring and will be felicitated by the Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division today,” Southern Railway said in a statement.
