Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have known each other for many years and were spotted at Nathdwara in Rajasthan last month.
Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of Encore Healthcare CEO Viren Merchant, got engaged at a Gol Dhana ceremony in Mumbai today, January 19. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shreya Ghoshal, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra arrived at Antilia, the Ambani residence, to celebrate the special occasion.
Radhika looked gorgeous in a gold embellished lehenga while Anant looked dapper in a navy blue kurta pyjama. The couple posed together for the paparazzi stationed outside Antilia before heading inside for the Gol Dhana ceremony. The couple greeted photographers with big smiles and even posed for pictures with their families.
Gol Dhana literally means coriander seeds and jaggery, which is distributed to the guests at the ceremony. In a Gujarati wedding, the ceremony represents an engagement. The bride and her family arrive at the groom’s house with sweets and gifts. The couple then exchange engagement rings and seek blessings from five married women from each family.
Meanwhile, Radhika and Anant’s roka ceremony was performed last month at the Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan in the presence of family members and friends. He was given a grand welcome on his return to Mumbai after the ceremony. After this there was a party at Ambani’s house ‘Antilia’, in which Bollywood Legends like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
Anant, the son of Nita and Mukesh Ambani, completed his studies from Brown University in the USA and has since served in various capacities at Reliance Industries, including as a member on the boards of Jio Platforms and Reliance Retail Ventures. He currently heads the energy business of RIL. Radhika, daughter of Shaila and Viren Merchant, is a graduate of New York University and serves as a director on the board of Encore Healthcare. She is also a trained Indian classical dancer and gave her first dance performance or ‘Arangetram’ on stage in June last year.
