anand mohan release: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition challenging the premature release of Bihar politician Anand Mohan from jail. The matter will be heard on May 8. The petition has been filed by the wife of late IAS officer G Krishnaiah in the apex court.

An ANI tweet said, “Supreme Court agrees to list on May 8 the petition of Uma Krishnaiah, wife of IAS officer G Krishnaiah, challenging the premature release of Bihar politician Anand Mohan from jail.”

Uma Krishnaiah moves the Supreme Court

Uma Krishnaiah, wife of slain IAS officer G Krishnaiah, moved the Supreme Court on Thursday morning challenging the premature release of Bihar MP Anand Mohan from Saharsa jail. The slain IAS officer G Krishnaiah was killed in 1994 by a mob led by former Bihar MP Anand Mohan. Mohan was in Saharsa Jail and was released on Thursday morning following an amendment in Bihar’s jail rules.

Uma Krishnaiah, wife of G Krishnaiah, has argued that the life sentence awarded to the gangster-turned-politician meant imprisonment for his entire natural life and cannot be mechanically interpreted as merely 14 years. In her plea before the Supreme Court, she said, “Imprisonment for life, when given as an alternative to the death penalty, should be strictly enforced as directed by the court and would be beyond application of remission.”

What was the matter?

Krishnaiah, who hails from Telangana, was lynched by a mob in 1994 when his vehicle tried to overtake the funeral procession of gangster Chhotan Shukla in Muzaffarpur district. The then MLA Mohan was leading the procession.
