Former chief Jagadish Shettar on Sunday submitted his resignation as MLA to Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri in Sirsi.

Shettar, who resigned as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA on Sunday, said he was yet to decide whether he would join the Congress or not.

Asked whether he would join the Congress, the former Karnataka chief minister said, “I haven’t decided yet.”

Earlier, on Sunday, Shettar alleged that some Karnataka BJP leaders were mishandling the party in the state.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai met Shettar at his Hubli residence. They offered him that his family members could contest elections and would be given other important posts, but he refused.

According to BJP sources, after the Pradhan and the Chief Minister’s visit, top BJP leaders also called Mr. Shettar and offered him the post of Governor or Union Minister, but he refused to take up the offer.

He said that he only wants to work as MLA of his area, he has no desire for any big post. Shettar was quoted as saying, “Now, I have decided to resign from the party. Even if they decide to give me the ticket, I will not take back my decision.”
