“He is expected to give instructions to the state party leaders regarding the strategy in view of the panchayat polls this year as well as the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” said the state committee member.

BJP sources said Union Home Minister Amit Shah may visit West Bengal later this week in view of the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in the state.

A BJP state committee member said the minister is likely to reach Kolkata on Friday morning, after which he is expected to attend a rally in Birbhum.

In the afternoon, he is scheduled to return to Kolkata and later in the evening, Shah is expected to hold a meeting with the state BJP core committee members. The next day he has a program to offer prayers at Dakshineswar Kali Temple and later he will return to Delhi.”

He said that in the past several scheduled visits of the Union Home Minister were canceled at the last moment.

But we hope he will finally visit this time. It is expected that he will give instructions to the state party leaders on the strategy in view of the panchayat elections to be held this year and the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Political observers feel that the choice of Birbhum as the proposed venue for the rally is quite interesting.

This comes in the absence of Trinamool Congress district president Anubrata Mandal, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore cattle smuggling scam in West Bengal.

Observers said that in the backdrop of the development, the saffron camp has decided to focus on this district.

Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Shubhendu Adhikari has expressed confidence of the BJP winning both the Lok Sabha constituencies in Birbhum next year.
