Amidst rising cases of CoV, HC resumes virtual hearings. Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: Following the fresh spurt in COVID-19 cases in Assam and detection of omicron cases, the Gauhati High Court switched to virtual proceedings from Thursday, and it will be effective till further orders.
A notification issued by the Registrar General of the court said, “Scholastic advocates and parties may refer their cases showing urgency before the respective courts at the main seat. The Court, on being satisfied that the matter is of an urgent nature, shall hear such matters.”
The court further said that only learned advocates and parties, whose names appear in the cause list, shall enter the premises of the High Court. “Any other person whose presence in the court is required shall enter after obtaining the prior permission of the Registrar (Administration),” it said.
Wearing of face mask and following social distancing has been made mandatory in the High Court premises.
“All lawyers, litigants, staff members, security staff, etc., after taking both the doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, shall be allowed to enter the High Court premises and shall be subjected to medical screening before entry into the new High Court. as the old High Court building,” the notification said.
Assam reported 591 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, of which 279 were reported in Kamrup (Metro) alone. In the last 10 days, Kamrup (Metro) district has reported the maximum number of 832 cases, followed by Kamrup (156), Jorhat (105) and Dibrugarh (72).
