Bhubaneswar: Fresh Reservation List Minus OBC There is a possibility of submitting quota for the upcoming panchayat elections state election commission ,seconds) on Friday. An official source said that the State Panchayati Raj Department would submit the reservation list for the posts of Zilla Parishad President in various districts, while the District Collector would submit the quota list for the posts like Sarpanch, Committee Member, Ward Member and Zilla Parishad Members.
Most of the districts have completed the exercise of preparing reservation list without OBC quota. “We have also completed it for the post of Zilla Parishad President. The list will be submitted to the SEC,” said a senior government official.
The new reservation list has been prepared after an observation by the Orissa High Court that there can be no reservation for backward classes. The High Court’s decision was in accordance with two recent orders Supreme court,
The SEC has also finalized almost all the preparations for the Panchayat elections. As the State Election Commission has called a meeting with representatives of various political parties on January 10, official sources said the Election Commission may take any decision regarding the announcement of dates after meeting with political parties.
A high-level meeting has also been called by the State Election Commission on January 12 to discuss various issues related to Panchayat elections. The meeting will be attended by the District Collector and Superintendent of Police and senior officials such as the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Development Commissioner, Home Secretary and Panchayati Raj Department.
The Election Commission is also keeping a close watch on the situation of Kovid-19 in the state. omicron Experts anticipate cases may peak in February.
