Amid signs of rift within BJP’s Manipur unit, where three MLAs have resigned from administrative posts within a fortnight, the state’s ruling party will hold a meeting on Friday, sources said.

BJP MLA Paonam Brojen became the third MLA to resign on Thursday. He gave up the presidency of the Manipur Development Society on “personal grounds”. The meeting was announced soon after the resignation became public.

“A meeting has been scheduled on Friday at 11 am. Top leaders of the state BJP, including MLAs, are expected to attend the meeting, said a party source.

Four BJP MLAs from the northeastern state are reportedly camping in Delhi to meet the party’s central leadership and air their grievances. Of these, three have resigned from their old administrative posts.

A fourth MLA has lodged a complaint with the Manipur Police against the BJP’s State Minorities Morcha president for “threatening” him through a Facebook post.

His moves have led to speculation that discontent was brewing in the Biren Singh-led BJP government.

Earlier, party MLA Karam Shyam on Monday resigned as chairman of the Tourism Corporation Manipur Limited, complaining that he was “not assigned any responsibility”.

On 8 April, another MLA, Thokchom Radheshyam, resigned as advisor to the chief minister, citing a similar complaint.

A fourth MLA, Khwairakpam Raghumani, has lodged a complaint with the state police against state BJP Minority Morcha President Askar Ali for a Facebook post, which the MLA described as a “threat” to his life.

Ali reportedly commented on the move of the four MLAs to voice the BJP’s top leadership, saying “Let this be the last journey to Delhi” in Manipuri language.

In her complaint, Raghumani claimed that Ali issued this statement when I was in Delhi and it seems that he is threatening that this would be my last visit to Delhi or anywhere.
