Amid Reports of Leopard Sightings, Bangalore University Cautions Students & Faculty to be ‘Watchful’

In a circular issued on Thursday, the registrar of BU at Gyanbharti campus, citing such reports, said that a letter has been sent to the Forest Department urging them to capture the leopard and take appropriate action.

Alarmed by media reports of a leopard sighting on its campus, Bangalore University has asked students, faculty and other staff to be alert and report sightings of the big cat activity.

In a circular issued on Thursday, the registrar of BU at Gyanbharti campus, citing such reports, said that a letter has been sent to the Forest Department urging them to capture the leopard and take appropriate action.

“In view of reports appearing in the media and social media platforms about the sighting of a leopard in the campus, all students of the University, especially those residing in University hostels, teaching faculties and other staff are hereby directed to remain alert stay and avoid moving during the night. Also, they should immediately inform their higher authorities on seeing the movement of the leopard,” read the circular.

Last month, parts of Bengaluru South zone were spooked by the antics of the big cat in and around Turahalli forest, off Kanakapura Road.

Forest officials suspected at the time that the two leopards might have strayed from the city’s Bannerghatta reserve forest to Turahalli forest and surrounding areas, which is in close proximity.
