In Punjab, there has been a political uproar over the links of the Congressmen with the sand mafia. Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has opened a front against the Congress. The Akali Dal said that when Captain Amarinder Singh was the CM, the Mining Department had given him the names of 30 Congress MLAs. Jae was allied with the sand mafia. Then the Captain did not take any concrete action against him. Now Amarinder has no compulsion to save them. They should make the names of MLAs public.

This demand of Akali Dal has brought about an old news report. In which it was said that more than 30 Congress MLAs are directly and indirectly associated with sand mafia. The sand mining department had submitted this report to Amarinder in January 2018. In this regard, the then chief of Captain Sunil Jakhar, then Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari and current Punjab in-charge Harish Chaudhary (then Congress secretary) had also met Rahul Gandhi.

MLA from Malwa and Majha

The report claimed that most of the MLAs with links to sand mafia were from Malwa and Majha areas of Punjab. It also included the areas of Firozpur, Faridkot, Moga, Ropar, Nawanshahr, Pathankot and Gurdaspur. However, then Congress chief Sunil Jakhar had denied any such list.
