Akshay Kumar credits PM Modi’s contribution in increasing global reach of Indian film industry

actor Akshay Kumar, whose period drama ‘Prithviraj’ is set to hit the theaters soon, has said that Indian cinema is now going big in the international arena and lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contribution in this. The actor said that he missed attending the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in France after testing positive for COVID-19. It would have been a special moment for her to walk the red carpet on the opening day of the global festival in France as part of the Indian contingent, the superstar said, adding that it was the first time she was invited to Cannes.

“I couldn’t go. For the first time in my life, I got an invitation to go to Cannes. Nobody invited me,” the ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ actor said at a special event. In an interview to ANI, he said, “Maybe I have not done such films which can go to Cannes.

Asked about the Indian film industry reaching the global scene, Akshay lauded the Prime Minister’s leadership and said things are changing for India. He said, “… I am sure and thank you to our Prime Minister, who has taken us to such a great level internationally. Things are changing for our country.”

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur Led the Indian delegation on the Cannes 2022 red carpet last month. The theme of this year’s pavilion was ‘India the Content Hub of the World’, showcasing Indian cinema across the linguistic, cultural and regional diversities of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wrote a message expressing pride in India’s presence at Cannes and said that India has the potential to truly become the content hub of the world. He highlighted that the Government of India is resolute in its efforts towards furthering the ease of doing business in the film sector.

India was named as the official ‘Country of Honour’ in the Marche du Film, which was held in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival in France.

Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, ‘Prithviraj’ is based on the life story of 12th century king Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan. It also stars Manushi Chhillar in the role of Rani Sanyogita, Chauha’s Sanyogita.
