BJP Uttar Pradesh chief and MLA Swatantra Dev Singh on Monday slammed former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav over his claim that the Kashi Vishwanath corridor was cleared when his government was in power.

The BJP MLA tweeted, “Akhilesh Yadav is shocked to see such a grand event in Kashi.”

Taking a jibe at the SP chief, he said, “If Jinnah’s statue was unveiled, he (Akhilesh) would have jumped with joy and distributed sweets from house to house.

BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh also slammed the former UP CM and said, “Akhilesh Yadav’s response to PM shows that he cannot digest the pride of Kashi’s redevelopment and growing Indian culture here. It shows that he is not inspired by Indian culture. But by Jinnah culture. Hence, he is giving this kind of reaction. It is unfortunate.”

On Sunday, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the project was approved during his tenure and there is documentary evidence of it.

He alleged that the BJP government has devised a series of programs for the introduction of the corridor only to divert people’s attention from the PM’s failure to double the farmers’ income.

“You all know who promised to double farmers’ income. Today due to price rise fertilizers are not available, so how will farmers’ income be doubled?”

“Just because people don’t ask this question, they are bringing Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. And if there is any cabinet which has passed the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, it was the Samajwadi Party government,” Akhilesh told reporters.

“We will provide you the documents,” he said. Because this time we will talk with evidence.

Akhilesh Yadav ruled Uttar Pradesh (UP) from 2012 to 2017 and was succeeded by Yogi Adityanath.

The corridor has been built as a mega project and is expected to boost tourism in the ancient city – which is also the PM’s Lok Sabha constituency.

The state-of-the-art infrastructure surrounding the historic Kashi Vishwanath Temple near the iconic Dashashwamedh Ghat will be inaugurated on December 13 ahead of the assembly elections in UP early next year.

The corridor project is the latest contest between the BJP and the SP, who have a tough fight.
