Air India employees received a letter from the airline on October 5, asking them to submit a signed compliance letter by October 20, stating that they would vacate their company-provided homes within six months of the airline’s privatization. Will do, said a report in The Times of India.

Air India employee unions have said that if employees are forced to vacate their homes, they will go on an indefinite strike from November 2.

The unions have also stressed on the fact that there are many slums on the airport land which have not been given any such notice.

On 8 October, Tata Sons won a bid to acquire the state-run national carrier Air India, which has been in debt for more than half a century, after handing over control to the government.

The salt-to-software conglomerate made a winning bid of Rs 18,000 crore and regained 100 stake in the airline.
