Air India disinvestment: Piyush Goyal said, the government has not taken any decision yet

Dubai: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that while the central government is yet to take any decision on Air India, the final winner will be selected through a well-defined process.

“I don’t think any such decision has been taken which has been taken,” Goyal said.

“Of course, the bids were invited … and this is evaluated by the authorities and over time, there is a completely laid down process through which the final winner will be selected,” he said of a poser about media reports. Responding, PTI reported that Tata has emerged as the top bidder for the acquisition of debt-ridden Air India.

Earlier on Friday, Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) Tuhin Kanta Pandey said that the Center has not yet approved any financial bid for Air India.

“The media reports approving the financial bids by the Government of India in the AI ​​disinvestment case are incorrect. The decision of the government will be informed to the media as and when it is taken,” tweeted Pandey.

When asked about the proposed free trade agreement with the UAE, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister said that there are a lot of opportunities for Indian businesses in sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, pharma and healthcare.

Goyal said that both goods and services have tremendous potential.

Commenting on the investment, he told reporters in Dubai, “We have to encourage Indian businesses to engage with the UAE.”
