Army’s Eastern Command Chief of Staff Lt Gen KK Repswal on Wednesday said the recruitment of young soldiers under the Agneepath scheme would provide availability of a trained pool in case of any requirement even after the completion of their four-year tenure in the armed forces. Will do ,

“It’s a trained pool available to you and they can be called back if the situation demands,” he told a news conference at Eastern Command Headquarters in Fort William. Repswal said the army will recruit 40,000 soldiers under this scheme and the process will start within three months. He said that at present only male candidates will be recruited. “Girls will also get a chance once the system is stabilized.

Stating that Agneepath’s plan is to transform the Army to make it future-ready, Repswal said it makes provision for regular forces to retain 25 per cent of each batch, and 75 per cent which completes four years. After leaving, they will get preference in recruitment in Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles.

The government on Tuesday unveiled the scheme that will replace the decades-old selection process to bring in fitter and younger soldiers to meet the future security challenges facing the country. This year around 46,000 soldiers will be recruited in the Army, Navy and Air Force between the ages of 17 and a half to 21 years.
