Agnipath scheme: Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said in a press conference on Sunday that Agniveers will get a compensation of Rs 1 crore if they sacrifice their lives in the service of the nation, explaining the new recruitment scheme, among others. The ‘Agnivar’ will get the same allowance in areas like Siachen and other areas as is applicable to the regular soldiers currently serving. There is no discrimination against them in terms of service, Lt Gen Anil Puri further said.

Rejecting the rollback of the ‘Agneepath’ recruitment scheme despite widespread protests, the three services of the Army on Sunday came out with a detailed schedule of enrollments under the new policy, saying it is aimed at reducing the age profile of the armed forces personnel. forces.

Lt Gen Anil Puri said the supportive measures announced for the firefighters in the past few days were not due to protests and arson, and that the government was already working on them.

He said youths involved in arson and violence while opposing the scheme would not be able to join the three services as police verification process would be done before enrolling anyone.

“There is no place for indiscipline in the armed forces. There is no place for arson and violence. All those who want to be a part of the armed forces under the Agneepath scheme will have to give a certificate that they were not a part of any. Arson,” he said.

Asked whether the government was reviewing or withdrawing the plan due to protests, Lt Gen Puri said, “No, why should it be withdrawn?”

The tri-services media briefing at the Defense Ministry came hours after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force for the second consecutive day on Sunday.
