After New Zealand, Usman Khawaja withdrew from England tour of Pakistan

Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja feels it is very easy for players and teams to say no to the Pakistan tour. He also believes that the scenario would have been different if this had happened to India.

Last Friday, New Zealand abandoned their white-ball tour of Pakistan minutes before the start of the first ODI in Rawalpindi, citing security reasons. On Monday, England pulled out of the men’s and women’s white-ball tour of the country in October. With the West Indies touring in December and Australia also set to tour the country next year, it remains to be seen if the tour holds up.

“I think it is very easy for players and organizations to say no to Pakistan, because it is Pakistan. I think the same thing would apply even if there was Bangladesh. But no one will say no to India if they are in a similar situation,” Khawaja was quoted as saying by The West Australian on Thursday.

“Paisa Bolta Hai, we all know, and that’s probably a big part of it. They keep proving again and again through their tournaments that they are a safe place to play cricket. No reason I guess. That we should not go back,” said the 34-year-old.

Khawaja, born in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad and living in Sydney at the age of five, said his close friend Ben Cutting felt really safe while traveling to the country for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). “There’s a lot of security. Heavy, heavy security. I’ve heard nothing but reports about people feeling safe. Even talking to people during the PSL about what it’s like… they tell me the same Will say things like ’10 years ago, maybe not, but now 100 percent’.”

Khawaja, last seen in a Test during the Ashes in England in August 2019, will have a chance to make his case for a Test recall ahead of the Ashes in the country when his team Queensland play for the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day. Tasmania will host. Cup match.
