Afghans with valid visa and passport can take evacuation flights: Taliban

A Taliban official at the city’s international airport said on Tuesday that Afghans with valid visas and passports were stranded in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif waiting to take chartered evacuation flights out of the country.

Mawlawi Hafiz Mansoor said most Afghans waiting to take one of the four evacuation flights do not have valid visas or passports. The Taliban have said that only Afghans with passports and valid visas will be allowed in.

Mansoor did not give details of the number of those with and without valid documents.

Speaking from Qatar, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also said that the Taliban have assured a safe passage for all to leave.

The US is under pressure to help the remaining Americans and green card holders leave Afghanistan, and has promised to work with the Taliban to do so.
