Afghan man held with heroin worth Rs 20 crore | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), with the help of Surat city crime branch and Delhi crime branch, have arrested a 22-year-old from Afghanistan with 4kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore from Teri School of Advanced Studies (Teri SAS) in New Delhi, said officers on Sunday.
According to ATS officers, ACP Bhavesh Rozia of Surat city crime branch had tipped them off about a man named Wahidullah Rahimi from Kandahar.
“We received an input that Rahimi, who came to India in 2016 on a medical visa for the treatment of his family members, was selling narcotics in large quantities in and around the national capital,” said an ATS officer.
Rahimi was to supply heroin at around 11.30am on Friday at Teri SAS in Vasant Kunj area. Acting on the input, a team of Gujarat ATS and Surat city crime branch went to New Delhi and caught Rahimi with the help of Delhi crime branch, said an ATS officer.
The officer said that the cops found in his possession 4kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore in the international market. Delhi police registered a complaint under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act against Rahimi.
ATS sources said that Rahimi had come to India with his parents and siblings in 2016 on a medical visa. Asked about the visa, an ATS officer said that he was not aware of the case as it was being probed by Delhi police. The officer, however, said that he had renewed his visa due to a change of regime in Afghanistan. “Rahimi and his family were also seeking refuge in India after the Taliban took over Afghanistan, but their request was yet to be sanctioned,” said the ATS officer.
