Nani’s film achieved a TRP rating of 1.88, while Shesh’s film received an even lower rating of 1.87.

Major, the film which depicted the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, was directed by Shashi Kiran Tikka. This blockbuster hit starred Adivasi Shesh, Saiee Manjrekar and Sobhita Dhulipala in lead roles. The film grossed over ₹66 crore at the box office, and is one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2022.

Ente Sundaraniki, featuring Nani and Nazriya Nazim in the lead roles, marked the debut of Nazriya in Telugu cinema. Vivek Atreya served as the writer and director of the film. Although the audience enjoyed the film, it failed to generate significant collections and performed poorly commercially.

In the recent news, Major has broken the record of Nani’s first Sundaraniki in terms of lowest TRP (Television Rating Point) on its initial telecast. Nani’s film achieved a TRP rating of 1.88, while Shesh’s film received an even lower rating of 1.87. Both the films were aired on Gemini TV. Nowadays, most viewers prefer to watch content on OTT (over-the-top) platforms, leading to a decline in TV viewership and interest.

Purva Sundaraniki released in theaters on 10 June 2022 and opened to positive reviews from critics. The film failed at the domestic box office, though it performed well in the overseas market. It grossed over $1 million overseas, Nani’s seventh film to do so. The film grossed over ₹38 crore worldwide.

Major earned ₹64–66 crore worldwide. The film earned a huge distributor share of ₹33.35 crore and emerged as a blockbuster at the box office. While the former film was a flop, Major was successful at the box office and still did not garner substantial viewership on television.

Since the advent and popularity of OTT platforms, there has been a drastic change in the trends of film exposure. While one can argue that the audience for each platform is different, we cannot ignore the fact that OTT platforms have made it easy to watch movies based on our schedule and with zero commercials unlike TV .
